Parent Ambassador – Maiem (Early Years)

What do you love about MIC?

I was first drawn to Montessori when I witnessed a Montessori classroom in the UK. I loved watching the freedom of creativity and the children had a real sense of responsibility of self. I saw the children behaving as little adults, moving around each other respectfully, caring for their environment and having the freedom to concentrate on something they really enjoyed without being ”told” or interrupted. This is exactly what I found at MIC! And the fact that the College runs right through high school and Year 12 is something that is very important to me. The Guides and Assistants are incredibly caring and respectful. My daughter absolutely thrives in her environment and has made some beautiful friends that I know will be around for a lifetime! A community where like-minds come together and support one another.

What year did you join the MIC parent community?

The beginning of 2018.

How you would best describe your role as a parent ambassador?

Being a Parent Ambassador has been wonderful. I remember how nervous and overwhelmed we were when we first started at our new school, so my first priority as Parent Ambassador this year was to make new families feel welcome and supported. Bringing the class community together is another important task – organising get-togethers each term and special Parent Coffee Dates, children’s play dates etc. Being on top of information regarding the school and students is also paramount. An informed community is a calm community!

What’s your favourite thing about your role as parent ambassador?

My favourite thing about being a Parent Ambassador is definitely the social side! Getting to know each family, each child and parents has been really lovely and fun for me. I have found that the MIC community is one of the most warm and friendly communities I’ve ever come across! I’ve also enjoyed getting to know more about the school, its vision, our amazing Principal, Chiray, and the exciting things planned for the years ahead at MIC. I feel very grateful to have been a Parent Ambassador for 2019!
