Why are you involved with Montessori education?

I was first introduced to the Maria Montessori approach when I began my Psychology studies in 2001. The methodology always resonated with me and I immediately introduced parts of the Montessori approach into my own practice when I began teaching in 2009. It was not until I began relief at MIC in 2019 that I truly witnessed Montessori Education firsthand and how the approach accepts and appreciates each child’s individuality and focuses on their needs, natural interests, and skills. I have always been extremely interested in understanding how children learn best and I believe that they learn best through hands-on, self-directed, and collaborative experiences, which is the epitome of Montessori Education.

What year did you commence at MIC?

2019

How would you describe what you do?

I guide each child towards becoming a life-long learner by establishing positive and respectful relationships and creating an environment that is happy, safe, and meaningful. I promote children’s natural curiosities where they can become confident and independent individuals, who LOVE to learn.

What’s your favourite thing about your role?

I love that no two days are the same. How lucky am I that I get to be a part of each child’s unique and individual learning journey? Watching the children learn and grow is the greatest privilege.
